I AM constantly at war with the obvious

In high school, I got a D- on a term paper, along with some terse feedback from my English Lit teacher: “You have said nothing.”

I didn’t realize it then, but that was probably the exact moment I found my calling as a copywriter.

I’m the son of a former champion race car driver and grandson of a thrice-convicted moonshiner, born and raised in a hardscrabble place called Cocke County, Tennessee, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains (that’s “Dollywood-adjacent” in realtor-speak).

After somehow escaping the relentless gravitational pull of small town smaller-mindedness once and for all, I was a first-generation college student. I paid my own way through college, working 40 hours a week driving a forklift, landscaping, picking up dog shit, washing windows, welding, etc. The gritty work ethic I developed way back when hasn’t left the building.

When I’m not sweating the adjectives, I’m usually found sweating in the gym, on a tennis court or under the hood of an old sports car. I’m also a borderline obnoxious supporter of Manchester United and University of Tennessee athletics, and am also the proud parent of a part-time dog and a full-time plant.
